Ardagh Brownies meets at the community centre fortnightly on Friday evenings during the school year. Girls of primary-school age take part in games, crafts, badge work and outings, including two special events before Christmas. Places are limited by the number of leaders (one leader for every eight girls), so returning members register first and new places are offered once numbers are known. Weekly subs are €3 a night and are the unit's only income: they pay for the room, materials, refreshments, parties and trips. Parents who can help on the night, even occasionally, keep more places open

Brownies returns on Friday 9 October at 7pm in Ardagh Community Centre, and this year we meet fortnightly on Fridays. We held off restarting while the football season is still running, because many of our girls play on teams and our leaders have training and other commitments too. We'll adjust dates around school holidays and let everyone know in advance. Please come along on the first night to register your Brownie for the new season. Registration fees are collected on the night, and uniforms will be available to buy if needed. From this year the fee is collected at the start of each season in October rather than in January. The rules allow one leader for every eight girls, so our numbers depend on how many leaders we have. Returning members register first; once we know how many are coming back we'll know how many new places we can offer. Weekly subs stay at €3 a night. Any parent who can help on a night, even now and again, makes a real difference. We have fun activities planned, and two events before Christmas, one for the older girls and one for the younger ones.
